Information About Our Club

We welcome all horseshoe pitchers no matter your skill level. Join Us!

The Greater Lansing Area Horseshoe Club has been a sanctioned league of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) for over 40 years.  We are the oldest sanctioned league in the State of Michigan.  We are very proud of our long affiliation with the NHPA and the state of Michigan charter (MHPA).  Our long and distinguished history has produced many great players, some of whom have been inducted into the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame.

Our junior program has also produced some the finest junior and now adult players that have ever pitched horseshoes.  We welcome you to pitch with us.  Everyone is welcome at all skill levels.   Age does not matter.  We have members from 7 to 92.  All that matters is that you have fun.  After all, here at the Greater Lansing Area Horseshoe Club. FUN IS A WAY OF LIFE!

Our Sanctioned League Season

Our pitching season generally starts the first Thursday in May each year and runs until the third Thursday in August.  The season is 16 weeks in length barring any weather delays.  We usually pitch 14 weeks of regular season and then we have two nights of championship pitching to determine the winners for each class or division and the final week we pitch and compete to determine the winner of  the plaque that designates the city champion.  League starting time is promptly at 6:00 p.m.  We ask all players to be at the park by 5:30 p.m. to get the courts ready for play.

For league play, the club uses a handicap point system so all members at all skill levels can have a fair chance of winning their games.  League members pitch 4 games of 40 shoes per game with count-all scoring including handicap each night.

At the end of the season, the club hosts a banquet where awards, trophies, plaques and patches are given to winner members.

If it is desired, the club can start a non-sanctioned league, a junior league, a recreational league or a doubles (standing or walking) league at any time. Let us know if you are interested in starting another type of league.  We have experienced members who can help you get one started.  If you don’t have horseshoes, the club has a few to lend for a short time until you buy your own.

We also give free pitching lessons for beginners.  The sport is family friendly so adults and kids can enjoy it together.  Horseshoe pitching is fun and FUN IS A WAY OF LIFE!
